No doubt about it — Norfolk's hot — and we're celebrating with a development-friendly urban attitude. To appreciate where we are going, here's where we've been: over $5 billion in the past five years of investment is under way or completed. Home of the world's largest naval installation and headquarters for NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. As home to Virginia's opera, stage company, symphony and ballet plus the region's hip restaurant and visual arts scene, we'll keep you cultured and entertained, too.

Greater Downtown's Growing Skyline
What's new on the horizon? Norfolk's state-of-the-art Cruise Ship Terminal, Trader Publishing's Electronic Media headquarters, Harbor Height's mixed-use tower, Granby Tower's 31 stories of luxury condominiums, and Harbor's Edge Continuing Care Retirement Center neighboring the Sentara Heart Hospital in Fort Norfolk — for starters. Adjacent to our downtown core are two waterfront areas ripe for exciting new development. The proposed light rail system will connect the region's dynamic cultural, educational, business, medical, technological and lifestyle assets.

Come Home To Norfolk's Lifestyle
Over 4,000 housing units are in progress — 2,500 in greater downtown alone. There is amazing new residential product and amenities along Norfolk's Chesapeake Bay and marina-filled river waterfronts. East Beach in Ocean View features 750 homes and has been chosen as the site of this year's Coastal Living magazine's Idea House. The Broad Creek community will be adding 900 "smart" units of mixed-income housing near Norfolk State University's 25-acre R.I.S.E. Center tech park. A proposed $90 million Kroc Foundation/Salvation Army Performing Arts Center could be open as early as 2008.

Two new office/office flex parks are under construction with a dozen building choices located within Central Business and Church Street Office parks. Old Dominion University's University Village offers new office and research facilities, restaurants, shopping and residential space adjacent to the Constant Convocation Center, the new Lambert's Point Golf Course and a five-mile population radius of over 251,000.

Business & Industry Highlights
In 2005, Forbes magazine ranked Norfolk's metro area as the eighth-best location for business and careers. Inc. magazine ranked our area No. 13 for job growth. Norfolk International Airport has enjoyed a passenger increase of 24 percent in just five years. Transportation greats Norfolk Southern and Ford Motor Co., were joined by the French CMA CGM this year — as one of the world's largest shipping lines opened its North American headquarters. By 2010, Norfolk International Terminals should be the largest intermodal center on the east coast.
