The house where Benedict Arnold was held captive and the building where British General Cornwallis spent the night before making his fateful decision to head to Yorktown are situated among this collection of homes. Trendy shops and restaurants are also scattered throughout this area.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum
This museum pays tribute to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, the oldest shipyard in the nation, and the place where the CSS Virginia was converted into the iron-clad Merrimac during the Civil War.

Virginia Sports Hall of Fame
More than 160 of Virginia’s top athletes, including golfer Sam Snead and tennis great Arthur Ashe are honored.

THE RIGHT PLACE
Along the busy Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, contemporary conference facilities are situated near historically charming streets, upscale dining, unique shopping and plenty of entertaining attractions.

With one of the oldest working harbors in the nation, a wide range of ships continually passes by the city’s famous Seawall.

Waterfront hotels are connected to parks and promenades that make viewing all of the waterfront activity fun and easy. In fact, visitors may come and go aboard the Elizabeth River Ferry, a double-decked paddle-wheel riverboat that provides regular service between Portsmouth and Norfolk.

Portsmouth’s Old Towne historic district boasts the largest collection of 18th and 19th century homes and churches between Alexandria and Charleston, S.C. Other major attractions clustered on or near the city’s revitalized waterfront include the Children’s Museum of Virginia, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, the Ntelos Pavilion at Harbor Center, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, Carrie B. Harbor Tours, the Lightship Museum, the Museum of Military History and Courthouse Galleries.

Located on the waterfront with great views of the Elizabeth River and Norfolk’s skyline, the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center is a state-of-the-art facitlity with 22 meeting rooms for a total of 24,335 square feet.
Two public meeting facilities serve the city: Bide-A-Wee Pavilion, which can accommodate up to 350 people and Willett Hall, a 2,000-seat auditorium, which also offers its foyer, lobby and President’s room for meetings and receptions for up to 200 people.
