Albemarle Corp., a Richmond-based chemicals
producer, is one of 15 firms partnering with Roche
Holding AG of Switzerland to
produce the antiviral drug Tamiflu. Albemarle
will provide chemicals to manufacture the drug. Roche
is boosting production to meet anticipated demand in
response to concerns about the avian flu. (Richmond

George Mason University and
the Instituto Superiore de Sanita, the Rome-based
scientific arm of the Italian
National Health Service, agreed to a three-year partnership
in proteomics research, the study of protein activity. The
program would study biomarkers for early disease detection
and develop new cancer diagnostics and therapies. (Press

Virginia International Terminals signed
a 10-year deal with Mediterranean Shipping Co. of
Switzerland
that will bring at least 65,000 cargo containers annually
through the port. The deal, which is VIT’s fifth 10-year
agreement and its third largest, more than triples
