May 2006 The commonwealth has agreed to let the Metropolitan
Washington Airports Authority take over the Dulles
Toll Road. The toll revenue will be used to complete the Dulles
Corridor Metrorail Project, which will extend the Metrorail
through Tysons Corner and Washington Dulles International
Airport to Loudoun County. The proposal was discussed
in an article in the February
issue of Virginia Business
about the rapid growth of the state’s major airports.
G3 Systems
Inc. of Blacksburg has signed
teaming agreements to do work for Fairfax-based SRA
International.
The
agreements came after G3 participated in Virginia’s
Linked Workforce Showcase, which gives small Southwest companies a chance
to get in front of Northern Virginia technology
giants. The April
issue included
a story on this rural-urban partnership run by Virginia
Economic Bridge,
a nonprofit based in Radford.
The Mills Corp., an Arlington-based REIT and mall developer,
continues to restructure while the Securities
and Exchange Commission conducts a formal investigation
into the company’s accounting problems. Last month, Mills cut its work
force by another 70 workers, including the COO.
Altogether the company has
cut about 160 jobs since it revealed in January that it would need to restate
earnings
for the last five years. The accounting problems at Mills, which owns Potomac
Mills discount outlet mall in Prince William County, were detailed in a
March
story in Virginia Business. The company continues
to weigh strategic alternatives,
including its possible sale to another major REIT.
