AES Corp., an Arlington
power company, plans to invest $1 billion during
the next three years in
alternative energies and development of projects to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions. About half the investment
will be targeted to the company’s wind-power generation
business. AES plans to triple its investment in wind
power over three years. Another $250 million will be
spent on its liquefied natural gas interests by constructing
an LNG terminal in the Bahamas to transport gas to
Florida through a 95-mile pipeline. (The Washington

Dynax American Corp., a Richmond-based subsidiary
of Exedy Corp. of Osaka, Japan, will invest $11.7 million
to expand its Botetourt County auto parts facility,
adding manufacturing capacity and creating 52 jobs.
Virginia competed against Tennessee for the investment. (News

Merillat Inc., a subsidiary
of Masco Corp., an Adrian, Mich., manufacturer of
kitchen and bath
cabinets, plans to spend $16 million expanding its
Mount Jackson plant, creating 150 jobs. Virginia competed
against North Carolina for the project, the company’s
third Virginia expansion in less than two years. (News

Prime Choice Foods Inc., a Bristol-based manufacturer
of organic corn products, will consolidate warehouse
operations and increase manufacturing capacity at its
Bristol facility through a $4.5 million investment,
creating 35 jobs. Virginia competed with Tennessee
for the project. (News release)
RR Donnelley of Chicago, a provider of print
services, announced plans to invest $85 million to
expand manufacturing at plants in Roanoke County, Lynchburg
and Rockingham County. Virginia competed against several
states for the investment, which will create 139 jobs. (News

The Virginia Port Authority will spend $67.2
million to expand capacity at Norfolk International
Terminals, extending a wharf 900 feet and paving land
for container storage. When finished, NIT will be able
to service six ships simultaneously with 14 container
