Cavalier Telephone Inc.,
a Richmond-based telecommunications company, launched
its “Web Voicemail” service for business
customers, which allows access of voicemail messages
over a secure Internet connection. The company also
announced plans to offer broadband cable television
services, starting in Richmond. Cavalier will offer
150 channels and interactive features and also becomes
the first U.S. cable provider to use the new MPEG4
video technology, allowing transmission of video over
the company’s current fiber optic network. (PR)
Comcast Corp. has begun offering Comcast Digital
Voice service in the Richmond area. The service provides
digital-quality phone service with unlimited direct-dial
local and domestic long-distance calling.
Crutchfield Corp. of Charlottesville, a marketer
of consumer electronic products, unveiled a complete
Web site operation in Spanish, offering customers product
information and secure purchase options. The site is
the first of its kind in the consumer electronics industry. (BIZ)
JetBlue Airways Corp.,
headquartered in Forest Hills, N.Y., will offer service
from Washington Dulles
International Airport to Boston’s Logan International
Airport. Introductory fares will be as low as $25 each

The University of Richmond School of Law will
add a one-semester course on American Indian law. Leaders
among Indian tribes in Virginia hope to see the course
content spread to other Virginia colleges. The closest
universities in the Eastern U.S. offering course work
on Indian law and its impact on tribal land use and
treaty interpretation are found at Columbia University
in New York and the University of Connecticut. (Richmond
