AMF Bowling Centers Inc., a Mechanicsville-based operator of 352 bowling centers in the U.S., plans to add new centers and upgrade some of its existing sites in order to better compete for customers in the recreation market. The location of the new centers was not announced but Atlanta and Phoenix are reported as possibilities. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Boehringer Ingelheim Chemicals Inc., a Ridgefield, Conn.-based chemical manufacturer, plans to invest $135 million in an addition to its Petersburg plant, which will be completed in 2009 and create 100 jobs. The project is part of a $260 million capital improvements plan by the company. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Dynamic Aviation Inc., a global provider of leased Beechcraft King aircraft, plans to invest $4.1 million to expand its facility at the Bridgewater Airport, creating 206 jobs. The positions will include technical positions in avionics, airframe construction and engine repair. Virginia competed with Maryland, Oklahoma and West Virginia for the investment. (Press release)

STIHL Inc., a manufacturer of chain saws and other power equipment headquartered in Germany, plans to invest $78.4 million in an expansion of its Virginia Beach facility, creating 150 jobs. Virginia competed with Brazil, Germany and Switzerland for the investment. (Press release)

Turman Hardwood Flooring Inc., part of The Turman Group of Virginia, headquartered in Floyd, announced a $2.7 million expansion of its Galax facility. The addition of a wood pellet manufacturing operation will create 40 jobs. Virginia competed against North Carolina for the project. (Press release)

Universal Fiber Systems, a producer of fibers for the textile industry, plans to invest $8 million in its Prisma Fibers facility in Washington County. The project will save 12 current jobs and create 82 others. (Press release)

 Williams Mullen, a Richmond-based law firm, launched a corporate compliance and public policy group to deal with various issues related to governmental regulation, among them health care, contracting, and intellectual property. Jerry W. Kilgore, formerly a Virginia legislator and Attorney General now a Williams Mullen partner, will lead the group. (Press release)
