AES Corp., an Arlington-based power company, bought minority interests in wind farm developments in France and Bulgaria . AES has an option to buy a majority stake in the projects by InnoVent SAS and Kavarna, respectively, at a later date. (Business Wire)

Albemarle Corp., a producer of specialty chemicals headquartered in Richmond, added a production and packaging facility in Magnolia, Ark. for processing industrial grade anhydrous Hydrogen Bromide, used in the synthesis of fine chemicals, and also in plasma etching by the electronics industry. FERIDIES, a peanut grower headquartered in Courtland, plans to invest $3.2 million in an expansion of its facility in Southampton Business Park. The increase in equipment capacity will lead to creation of 25 jobs. (News release)

LeClair Ryan, a Richmond-based law firm, opened an office in New York City to expand its presence in the financial services and corporate bankruptcy sectors. Paul A. Merolla, immediate past president of the Securities Industry Association’s Compliance & Legal Division, will head up the new office. (News release)

NYK Logistics Inc., an affiliate of the Japanese shipping firm NYK Line, will open a freight distribution facility in Chesapeake. The 120,000-square-foot facility, which will primarily service imports for Target Corp., will mean 100 new jobs. NYK will continue operating its Hampton facility. Virginia competed with Florida for the $26 million investment. (News release)

Virginia Tech’s Blue Ridge Aquaculture fish farming facility in Martinsville will undergo a $2.4 million expansion to allow research on the feasibility of farming shrimp.
