Hampton University received a $59 million gift of software from UGS Inc.
of Plano, Texas.
The software will enable students in the School
of Engineering and Technology
to model and simulate structures and assembly lines. (The

Richlands wireless tower developer, partnered with
Peppertree Capital
Fund LP and Primus Capital Fund V, both of Cleveland,
Ohio, to form Pegasus Tower Development Co. LLC.
The firms pooled $20 million for acquisition and development

The University of Virginia Health System received
a $4.2 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes
of Health for development of a vaccine for amebiasis.
An estimated 50 million people annually suffer from
attacks on the digestive system with 40,000 to
100,000 deaths resulting from the infection. (News

The College of William & Mary will receive
$1.8 million and Virginia Commonwealth University $1.5
million in grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
The funds will go toward undergraduate education in
biology and other science fields as they relate to

Researchers in Virginia
Tech’s College of Agriculture
and Life Sciences have been awarded a $2.5 million
grant for work on improving the quality of waterways
that lead into the Chesapeake
Bay. Virginia Tech is the lead institution on three
projects focusing on reducing nutrient pollution
from entering local rivers and streams that lead
