Tidewater Community College’s division of Workforce Development provides dynamic, state-of-the-art education, training and services in response to workforce needs. The division serves annually more than 600 companies and 12,000 individuals in South Hampton Roads through contract training, employee certification, industry apprenticeships, and specialized credit and noncredit classes. TCC’s corporate, government and agency services include programs in leadership, industrial technology, health care, maritime, culinary arts, paralegal, accounting, management/supervision, retail operations, customer service, real estate, and professional development – with many offering a degree track. New programs include the Maritime & Ship Repair Center, defense contracting industry training, and building trades.

The largest provider of higher education and workforce development services in Hampton Roads, TCC offers more than 150 high-quality academic programs to more than 37,000 credit students each year. The 37th largest of the nation’s 1,600 community colleges, TCC ranks among the 50 fastest-growing large community colleges, with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach as well as the TCC Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center in downtown Norfolk, Visual Arts Center in Olde Towne Portsmouth, and a regional Advanced Technology Center in Virginia Beach. Thomas Nelson Workforce Development prides itself in the services available to business and industry. The Peninsula Workforce Development Center makes available to any business in Hampton Roads two flexible manufacturing labs fully equipped with CNC machines, lathes, pneumatics and numerous other industry tools for training, with the option for businesses to bring to the center specific equipment necessary to complete thorough training. Also offered are multiple conference centers, four state-of-the-art computer labs, and a KeyTrain/ WorkKeys Learning Lab. Mobile computer labs are also available to businesses for employee training at their own facility.

TNWD has made a practice of customizing services available to businesses to assist with the administrative portion of training and/or educating their employees. Offering on-site services such as college applications, registration, delivering of textbooks, customized curriculum for credit and career study certificates are just a few of the options available.
