Cox Communications, an Atlanta-based
communications company, entered the residential
telephone market in Roanoke. This is the company’s
12th phone market nationwide and the first in
which it offers Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
technology to allow phone calls over Cox’s

a wireless communications company based in Reston,
and Motorola, a Shaumburg, Ill. electronics
company, partnered to offer a mobile phone specifically
designed for rigors encountered by outdoors
workers and enthusiasts. The Motorola i530 is
the only flip-top phone in the U.S. that meets
military standards for resistance to dust, shock,
