General Dynamics Land Systems, a Sterling Heights, Mich. Business unit of General Dynamics of Falls Church, announced plans to create 150 engineering and support positions at its Woodbridge Technical Center to work on the Army’s Future Combat Systems program. (06/24/2004, Press release)

Volvo Trucks North America plans to increase production at its Dublin truck plant. The Mack Truck assembly line will go from 36 to 60 trucks a day, and the Volvo truck line from 112 to 120. The production increase may mean the hiring of up to 300 new workers. (06/22/2004, The Roanoke Times)

iDirect Technologies, a Reston developer of satellite-based broadband systems, opened an office in Hong Kong to support market growth in Asia. (06/18/2004, PRNewswire)

Shenandoah County. RJJ will invest $3.1 million and create 28 jobs through the project. Virginia competed with West Virginia for the investment. (06/09/2004, Press release)

Honeywell International of Morris Township, N.J. revealed plans to invest $20 million in its Chesterfield County plant that makes Spectra, a high-strength synthetic fiber used in bullet-resistant vests and other protective gear. Wal-Mart, a Bentonville, Ark., retailer, announced plans to expand its James City County distribution center. The $28.5 million investment will create 125 jobs. Virginia competed with Pennsylvania and Maryland for the project. (06/01/2004, Press release)

Advance Auto Parts, a Roanoke-based retailer of automotive products, said it would locate a distribution center in Weisenberg Township, Penn. The center will serve an expanding store base in the Northeast. Once completed, 500 jobs are expected to result. (05/28/2004, PR Newswire)
