Auto sector adding
parts

On
the heels of the just-completed $350 million upgrade
of Ford Motor Co.’s F-150 plant in Norfolk comes
four more expansions in the state’s automotive
sector. The biggest job producer is in Prince George
County, where New York-based Standard Motor Products
announced in July that it will spend $3 million to expand
its parts-distribution facility there and hire 175 people.
The
biggest infusion of cash comes from Michigan-based Siemens
VDO, which says it will spend $47 million over the next
30 months to expand its fuel injector manufacturing
plant in Newport News and hire another 107 people.
Another
Michigan company, parts maker Teleflex Automotive, says
it will do a $2.9 million expansion of its facility
in Russell County in Southwestern Virginia. The expansion
will add 75 jobs. And tire valve-maker Schrader Bridgeport
International says it will spend $5.1 million expanding
its facility in Campbell County over the next 30 months.
