In Brief
Levitating
in Norfolk
Old Dominion Universitys Maglev train is waiting
on a $2 million federal check. The trains scheduled
November launch was stalled by glitches and ODU needs
the money part of the pending federal transportation-funding
bill to fix the problems. It levitates,
it runs, its just noisy as all get out,
says ODU spokeswoman Jennifer Mullen. The $14 million
project is part of ODUs plan to be a transit research
center.
