Talk to the doctor who provides your eye care to see if you are a candidate, and ask the doctor to recommend a surgeon.
Gather additional recommendations from people who have had the surgery done.
Attend laser surgery seminars and watch a live or videotaped procedure.
Find a surgeon interested in your individual needs. Ask about the number of laser operations performed and the success rate.
Make sure you have realistic expectations about the outcome. If you’re over 40, you may still need reading glasses.
Ask about risks and alternative treatments.
Check to see if your insurance or flexible-benefit plan covers elective eye surgery. Ask about discounts and consider payment options.
If you wear hard or gas-permeable contact lenses, plan to stay out of them for several weeks or months before surgery.
