Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau | Greater Richmond Convention Center | Richmond Raceway Complex | The Berkeley Hotel

Capital a prime meeting spot
Virginia’s capital is home to some of America’s most important historic sites, including the second permanent English settlement in America, the site of Patrick Henry’s famous “Give me Liberty, or Give me Death” speech, several Colonial-era plantations, the Thomas Jefferson-designed State Capitol and an array of Civil War sites, including the wartime home of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy. In addition to its historic attractions, Richmond offers new shopping hubs and biking, whitewater rafting and picnic spots along the scenic James River.

Developers are spending millions to transform the city’s former tobacco warehouses, factories and department stores into luxury condominiums, hotels and office space. The new interest in urban properties allows the city to adapt to current trends while holding on to its past. Developments along the James River are also going up, using one of the city’s best attributes for new condominiums and entertainment venues.

Encompassing five and a half city blocks in Virginia’s capital city, the Greater Richmond Convention Center offers 178,159 square feet of exhibition space, 32 meeting rooms and a 30,550-square-foot grand ballroom. Parking is never short at the convention center, where there are 1,540 spaces in adjoining parking decks and more than 4,600 spaces in a six-block radius from the convention center.
The 389-room Richmond Marriott neighbors the convention center, which is close to more than 2,150 hotel rooms in downtown Richmond. The center will also benefit from plans to turn a former department store located across the street from the convention center into a 250-room Hilton hotel. The hotel is expected to be completed in late 2007.

The convention center’s exhibit space offers wireless Internet. Another on-site amenity is the Wachovia Business Center, offering convenient printing, faxing and copying services. Conference attendees can also eat at the Cyber Café inside the center, which offers free wireless Internet and televisions to catch up on today’s news.
